Nifty Fifty

I got a new toy today!!! A 50mm f1.8 lens. This lens will give me a little more creative freedom for certain shots…without going into all the boring details, it’s a great low light lens because the aperture opens up to let lots of light in. Because of this you can get really beautiful shots that have one small area in focus while the other parts are thrown out into blursville, which is fun for creative shots. It is one of the best lenses and also one of the cheapest ($100) so I was excited for it to arrive in the mail today. I had gone searching for it in the stores and apparently Nikon doesn’t even have it in stock…AND the lady at one of the stores said it wasn’t compatible with the Nikon D40…which, obviously it is…I just have to auto-focus it, which is fine by me!

I had an idea for my 365 shot today…but then of course had to toss it so I could play with my new toy. Here it is!

004/365

I got this idea from one of my favorite photographers on Flickr, Flashmonger…click on his name to see his inspiring shot…and take a minute to check out some of his other shots too.

Ooooh, I love my nifty-fifty too. Isn’t it great? Love the photos Kirsten. How did you fo these? Self-time or hubby? Nice job.

Yeah, I could go on all day about my love for the 50mm. It is awesome for portraits and in low light. I also hear that the f/1.8 is comparable to the f/1.4. Which is awesome since the f/1.8 is a little bit more. Have fun.

P.S. We need some new photos of Coen. Try the 50mm out on him okay? πŸ™‚

    Hugs,

Awww, typing too darn fast. Sorry for the typos and I meant to write that the f/1.8 is slightly cheaper than the f/1.4, not the other way around. I promise I will start reading my posts before I hit send, ha-ha. πŸ™‚

cool! My nifty fifty is arriving in the mail today too! Very neat shot of yourself. Wow, you’re brave taking 365 photos of yourself. How exactly do you do that? Lots of timer/tripod type photos?

Neat idea! I love the focus on the relaxed hand. Nice angle for the shot. πŸ™‚ I haven’t had a chance to check this out with flickr yet but will soon hopefully.
